Welcome to Museum Victoria’s
Crustaceans of southern Australia

The crustaceans in southern Australia are part of a diverse, endemic fauna of marine animals which live along this coast. The hundred or so photographs in this web site represent a small part of this fauna and serve to introduce the biology of marine crustaceans.

Our aims in presenting the photographs are to illustrate the diversity of form among crustaceans and to encourage an interest in this forgotten part of Australia’s own biota. The text contains general information about some of the major groups and more detailed observations about some species.

We hope to expand the scope of this web site, both within Crustacea and into other invertebrates over the next few years. We welcome comments and suggestions.

Feedback and queries should be sent to the Discovery Centre at Museum Victoria.
Please note, the Discovery Centre can help you only with questions about crustaceans from southeastern Australia. It can not advise on the care of pet hermit crabs or on crustaceans from other regions.
